Placenta Encapsulation

Bringing new life into the world takes an incredible amount of energy and strength. Many families choose placenta encapsulation as a way to support their recovery during the postpartum period.

Placenta encapsulation is the process of preparing the placenta after birth, dehydrating it, and placing it into capsules that can be taken like vitamins. This practice is rooted in the idea that the placenta—rich in iron, hormones, and nutrients—may help support the birthing person’s healing.

Potential Benefits Families Report

While research is still ongoing and evidence is mixed, many parents who choose placenta encapsulation share positive personal experiences, such as:

  • Increased energy during the early postpartum weeks

  • Support with mood balance and emotional wellbeing

  • Enhanced milk supply for lactation

  • Replenishment of iron levels after birth

  • A deeper sense of closure and respect for the birth experience

Placenta encapsulation is not a medical treatment or guarantee, but rather a holistic postpartum support option. Every experience is unique, and your choice is always honored with care, safety, and respect.

Placenta encapsulation is a sacred postpartum practice that transforms the placenta into easy-to-take capsules, supporting physical recovery and emotional balance after birth. Two preparation methods are available: the Raw Method, which preserves the placenta’s natural vitality for an energizing effect, and the Traditional Method, gently steamed with warming herbs to promote grounding, warmth, and restoration during the postpartum period.

 FAQs

  • On average, each placenta yields approximately 120–150 capsules, though the total amount can range from 100 to 200, depending on the placenta’s size, density, and preparation method.

These capsules contain only pure, dehydrated placenta powder — with no added herbs, spices, or fillers.

If you request additional placenta-based keepsakes or products such as a plant, tincture, or salve, the final capsule count may vary slightly to accommodate the creation of your other items.

  • If your babies share one placenta, we process it as usual. If each baby has their own placenta, we process and store the capsules separately so it’s easier to track how each placenta may be affecting your body. The total yield and products will depend on the size and health of each placenta, and I can help customize your capsule count and any additional products.

  • Once your placenta is received, processing begins within 24 hours. The typical turnaround time is within 5 business days, though your items may be ready sooner depending on my availability. I’ll keep you updated throughout the process and let you know as soon as your capsules and any additional products are ready for delivery or pickup.

  • Yes, it is still possible to encapsulate safely. In these cases, your placenta will be steamed prior to dehydration to ensure safety and reduce potential bacteria.

  • Yes! Cesarean and induced labors are both fine for encapsulation. Just let your medical team know you plan to keep your placenta so it can be stored properly. As long as there are no infections or complications, it’s safe to process. I’ll guide you on handling and pickup.

    • The placenta was improperly stored postpartum (not refrigerated or kept on ice within a few hours after birth).

    • There was a fever or infection during labor or birth.

    • You were diagnosed with chorioamnionitis (infection of the placenta or amniotic fluid).

    • You have HIV or AIDS.

    • You experienced PUPPPs (Pruritic Urticarial Papules and Plaques of Pregnancy).

    • You have an active STD outbreak during vaginal birth.

    • There is heavy meconium staining present on the placenta. (Mild to moderate meconium can be processed with additional cleaning steps, but heavy staining may make encapsulation unsafe.)

    • The placenta was sent to pathology.

You can advocate for only a small piece of the placenta to be sent for testing instead. Once a placenta has been fully processed in pathology, contamination and improper storage are not guaranteed to be avoidable, making it unsafe for consumption.

If any of these situations apply, encapsulation may not be safe — but I’ll always review your specific case and help you determine the best next steps. Your safety is my top priority
